The NFL released a memo on Thursday outlining several key dates, deadlines, and times of note for the upcoming preseason and regular season. They’ve even got dates set for well into the 2025 offseason, but we needn’t worry about that right now.

For the Seattle Seahawks, there are a couple of deadlines that don’t apply to them at all (including franchise tag and draft pick signings) so we won’t list them here. Here are the ones worth paying attention to:

Preseason

Tuesday, Aug. 27 - Roster cutdown day from 90 players to 53 at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 - Claiming period for players who are subject to waivers expire at noon ET/9 am PT, after which point practice squad signings can be made (maximum 16 players with an additional international player slot); Any player placed on Reserve/Injured, Reserve/Non-Football Injury or Illness, or Practice Squad may be designated for return later in the season, starting at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT.

Sunday, Sept. 1 - Final day of preseason training camp

In-season

Tuesday, Oct. 15 to Wednesday, Oct. 16 - Fall league meeting in Atlanta, GA

Tuesday, Nov. 5 - NFL trade deadline at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT

Wednesday, Nov. 6 - Players with at least four accrued seasons are subject to the waiver system for the remainder of the regular and postseason.

Monday, Jan. 6 - Teams may begin exercising the fifth-year option on first-round picks from the 2022 NFL Draft (deadline: May 1); Clubs may begin signing free agent players (including from the CFL) for the 2025 NFL season; Earliest permissible date for clubs to renegotiate or extend the rookie contract of a 2022 NFL Draft pick or any undrafted rookie who signed in 2023.

The biggest adjustment is the NFL trade deadline, which was previously after Week 8 but will now happen after Week 9. Roster cutdown day returned to being a single-phase day last season, but the big change for 2024 is that up to two players can be placed on IR with a return designation without having to be on the initial 53-man roster.

No date has been confirmed for the Seahawks’ Super Bowl parade.
